Patrick RyanExecutive Leaders

Patrick Ryan
Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer

Patrick Ryan, has been in the healthcare field since 1980, with specific experience in finance, operations, direct-to-consumer marketing, strategic development, service and sales. Ryan currently serves as chairman and chief executive officer of The Broadlane Group™. Additionally, Ryan works with SV Life Sciences as a venture partner and serves on the Advisory Board of Ferrer, Freeman and Company.

Prior to joining Broadlane, Ryan served as chief executive officer and a director of PolyMedica Corporation, until its sale to Medco Health Solutions in 2007. PolyMedica was the nation’s largest direct-to-consumer provider of blood glucose testing supplies and related services to people with diabetes. The company served more than 1 million active patients throughout the United States. The company’s portfolio of products and services included patient education, prescription drugs and diabetic testing supplies. PolyMedica, under the well-known Liberty brand, made it simple for patients to obtain their supplies and medications, while encouraging compliance with physician orders.

Previously, Ryan served as the chairman and chief executive officer of Physicians Dialysis, Inc. from the company’s inception in 2000. Ryan led Physicians Dialysis, Inc. through several rounds of financing with SV Life Sciences and Ferrer, Freeman and Company. Together they created a nationwide network of dialysis clinics. Physicians Dialysis was acquired in 2004 by DaVita Inc.

Ryan has served as a partner at Westways Ventures, a firm specializing in the strategic development of companies in the healthcare and consumer sectors; as president and chief executive officer of Principalcare Inc., a company specializing in women’s healthcare; as president and chief executive officer of ImageAmerica Inc., a publicly-traded company that provided multi-modality medical diagnostic imaging services; and as president of R.B. Diagnostics, a company providing diagnostic imaging services. Ryan began his career working for American Hospital Supply Corporation.

Ryan has served as a director for numerous private and public companies. Ryan currently serves as a director of Affiliated Managers Group, Inc. (NYSE: AMG), Infusion Resources LLC and The Broadlane Group.

Ryan holds a B.A. in political science and sociology from the University of Rochester.

 

Tom SherryTom Sherry
President and Chief Operating Officer

Tom Sherry began his career in the healthcare field in 1976. He currently serves as president and chief operating officer of The Broadlane Group™, responsible for all company operations.

Sherry joined Broadlane’s management team in 2000 as executive vice president, sales and services. Prior to assuming the president and COO role, Sherry was the chief officer responsible for all client operations.

Before his career with Broadlane, Sherry was senior vice president of sales and services for Promedix. Prior to joining Promedix, Sherry was a senior executive at Owens and Minor, the leading U.S. distributor of branded medical/surgical products. During his career with Owens and Minor, he held several positions, including senior vice president of distribution, senior vice president of sales and marketing and group vice president, Western region. Sherry joined Owens and Minor in 1994 as vice president of sales and marketing, following Owens and Minor’s acquisition of Stuart Medical. Sherry began his healthcare career with Stuart Medical in 1976 as the sales representative for the Ohio area and was later promoted to Ohio sales manager. While at Stuart Medical, Sherry held various field management positions, including district manager for the Los Angeles division and Western regional vice president. In 1991, Sherry became vice president of sales and marketing and relocated to Stuart Medical’s headquarters in Greensburg, Penn. Shortly thereafter, he became executive vice president responsible for sales and marketing, supplier agreements and strategic planning. Before joining Stuart Medical, Sherry was a sales representative for Dow Corning for two years.

Sherry has a bachelor’s of science in business administration from Central Michigan University and completed the executive leadership school at the Darden School of Business.

Laurie JacksonLaurie Jackson 
Chief Financial Officer

Laurie Jackson began her career in healthcare in 1988. She has served as chief financial officer of The Broadlane Group™ since 2003, overseeing Broadlane's finance and administrative functions, including corporate financial planning, treasury functions, collections, general accounting, financial reporting, human resources, facilities and risk management. Prior to serving as CFO, Jackson was Broadlane’s controller since joining the company in 2000.

Before joining Broadlane, Jackson served as assistant controller for DaVita Inc., a national dialysis provider, where she was responsible for revenue management, Medicare reporting, general accounting and financial operations support. Before joining DaVita, Jackson spent 11 years with Tenet Healthcare Corporation in Tacoma, Wash., and in Dallas, most recently as director of financial reporting.

Jackson is a certified public accountant and holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Western Washington University and a master’s of business administration from City University in Bellevue, Wash.

Greg EricsonGreg Ericson 
Executive Vice President, Technology and Corporate Operations

Greg Ericson entered the healthcare field in 1998. He became chief information officer of The Broadlane Group™ in 2010.

Ericson has an extensive background in technology, working for a variety of companies. Prior to joining Broadlane, he was vice president of global information services for Smith and Nephew, PLC, a $4 billion medical device, biotechnology and pharmaceutical multinational corporation. There, Ericson was responsible for global technical architecture and led the information systems transformation to global shared services. He also delivered multiple consolidation and sourcing initiatives and established a communication and messaging group which delivered $2 million in annualized savings. During his nearly 11-year career with Smith and Nephew, Ericson held a variety of vice president roles in information systems and had many notable accomplishments, including implementing an information systems globalization strategy, overseeing the implementation of SAP 5.0, leading the transformation of the European supply chain, establishing service processes and systems to improve service levels and leading development of systems for an Internet-based startup.

Prior to his career at Smith and Nephew, Ericson was vice president of applications development and interim CIO at The Home Shopping Network, Inc.; director of applications development and information technology at Goody’s Family Clothing, Inc.; manager of the development center for VF Corporation, a Lee Apparel Company; senior consultant for Ernst and Young and project leader for Honeywell International, Inc.

Ericson holds a bachelor’s of science degree from Northwest Missouri State University.

Jonathan NapierJonathan Napier 
General Counsel

Jonathan Napier was appointed general counsel in 2009. Before that, he had been assistant general counsel and senior vice president of legal operations at The Broadlane Group™, having started with the company in 2000. Before coming to Broadlane, Jonathan was an associate at Ice Miller in Indianapolis. He holds a bachelor’s in religion, with honors, from the University of Iowa, and a juris doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law, with high distinction.

Michael BerryhillMichael Berryhill 
Executive Vice President, Strategic Sourcing Solutions

Michael Berryhill has been in the healthcare field since 1987. As executive vice president of the Strategic Sourcing Solutions division of The Broadlane Group™, he is responsible for leading national contracting services, as well as regional, custom and diversity contracting. These groups include medical, radiology, surgical, cardiology, laboratory, non-medical, IT, equipment and pre-commitment. In addition, Berryhill is responsible for the pharmacy and capital equipment service lines.

Berryhill’s extensive experience in healthcare includes work in the clinical diagnostic and pharmaceutical industries. Prior to joining Broadlane, he worked in the clinical diagnostic laboratory business for Bio-Rad Laboratories. Berryhill was responsible for capital equipment sales for the western United States. He focused primarily on instrumentation for toxicology and hemoglobin analysis. Berryhill spent eight years at ICN Pharmaceuticals as a chemist, where he worked on purification of radio-labeled nucleotides and proteins used in clinical research. He also managed ICN’s Radiochemical Technical Service Division worldwide.

Berryhill holds a bachelor’s of science in education from State University of New York.

Joe GreskoviakJoe Greskoviak 
Executive Vice-President, Chief Development Officer

Joe Greskoviak began his career in healthcare in 1982. He is responsible for the growth of The Broadlane Group™, through the development of new client relationships, strategic partnerships, and merger and acquisitions activities. Greskoviak reports to Broadlane’s chief executive officer and plays an instrumental role in the ongoing development of Broadlane’s business model.

Greskoviak joined Broadlane in 2000 and has held several executive positions prior to his current appointment. Prior to his current role, he was executive vice president of sales, marketing and business development at Broadlane.

Before joining Broadlane, Greskoviak served as vice president of business development and e-commerce at Premier Purchasing Partners, a division of Premier. He was closely involved in the formation of Premier's e-commerce company, Premier Health Exchange. Greskoviak also developed Premier's non-acute care business, Provider Select and Hawk Medical, an investment with Welsh, Carson, Anderson and Stowe. Previously, he held various provider positions, including the administrative director of ambulatory and urgent care at the West Suburban Hospital Medical Center in Chicago and as project director at Shared Medical Systems.

Greskoviak holds a bachelor's in political science from DePaul University.

David KlumpeDavid Klumpe 
Executive Vice President, Supply Chain Solutions

David Klumpe has been in the healthcare field since 1988. He serves as executive vice president of Supply Chain Solutions for The Broadlane Group™.

In this role, Klumpe leads comprehensive supply chain services for a number of the nation’s largest hospital providers, which includes 120-plus hospitals where more than 400 Broadlane employees manage more than $4 billion in hospital supply expense. These clients include some of the largest integrated delivery networks in the United States.

Prior to this position, Klumpe was Broadlane’s senior vice president, enterprise accounts-East. Before joining Broadlane, Klumpe served as the regional director of cost management services for the eight hospitals owned by Tenet Healthcare Corporation in Philadelphia. In addition, he previously served as the corporate vice president of purchasing for the Allegheny Health Education and Research Foundation.

Klumpe holds a bachelor’s of science in pharmacy from West Virginia University and a doctor of pharmacy from the University of Utah.

 

Joe GreskoviakLes Popiolek
Chief Technology Officer

Les Popiolek is chief technology officer, The Broadlane Group, and is based in the Dallas office. Prior to his role as CTO, he served as senior vice president of procurement services and informatics. As a service-line leader, he was responsible for business development and operations of Broadlane's procurement and e-commerce technology platforms, client analytics, and informatics platform. Les led the operations of Broadlane's National Procurement Center that enables clients to reduce overhead, gain process efficiencies and maximize contract savings. Les has also held leadership roles at Broadlane in the areas of information technology, contracting, and client care.

Les has extensive experience designing and building automated solutions for procurement processes. During his career, he has architected and implemented GPO back office technology and operations for several GPOs, including Broadlane.

In his career, Les has also held positions at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young and Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).

Les is a member of the National Contract Management Association, North Texas chapter, and the Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS). He holds a bachelor's degree in finance from University of Illinois at Chicago.

Neal Moszkowski 
Founder and Co-Chief Executive Officer of TowerBrook Capital Partners, Co-Chairman of TowerBrook Investment Committee

Moszkowski is founder and co-chief executive officer of TowerBrook and is co-chairman of the TowerBrook Investment Committee. He was previously co-head of Soros Private Equity Partners, a division of Soros Fund Management LLC. He was a member of the management committee of Soros Fund Management LLC. Moszkowski was a member of the Principal Investment Area of Goldman Sachs in London and New York from 1993 to 1998. Moszkowski earned a bachelor’s of arts from Amherst College and a master’s of business administration from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Travis Nelson
Managing Director, TowerBrook Capital Partners

Travis Nelson is a managing director of TowerBrook. Prior to joining TowerBrook, he was a managing director and co-founder of Pacific Partners. Previously, Nelson was an investment professional at Goldman Sachs, Oak Hill Capital Partners, and Freeman Spogli and Co., and he served as a consultant to Rich Santulli, chief executive officer of NetJets, a Berkshire Hathaway company. Nelson earned a bachelor’s of arts from DePauw University and a master’s of business administration from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Leslie V. Norwalk 
Strategic Counsel to Epstein Beck and Green P.C. and EBG Advisors, Principal in Norwalk and Associates

Leslie V. Norwalk is strategic counsel to Epstein Becker and Green, P.C. and EBG Advisors. She is also a principal in Norwalk and Associates.

Norwalk served the George W. Bush administration as the acting administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). She managed the day-to-day operations of Medicare, Medicaid, State Child Health Insurance Programs, Survey and Certification of health care facilities and other federal health care initiatives. Prior to that, Norwalk served as the agency’s deputy administrator for four years. In that role, she implemented the Medicare Modernization Act, including the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit.

CMS has the second-largest budget outlay of the federal government, directly responsible for $1 out of every $3 spent on healthcare in the United States. The organization insures approximately 25% of the population of the United States (more than 90 million beneficiaries), including the elderly, disabled and some of the lowest income individuals in the country. CMS processes more than 1 billion claims each year and contracts with about 1 million providers.

Prior to serving the Bush Administration, Norwalk practiced law in the Washington, D.C., office of Epstein Becker and Green, P.C. where she advised clients on a variety of health policy matters. She also served in the George Bush administration in the White House Office of Presidential Personnel.

David Ricker
Healthcare Executive

David Ricker served as president and chief executive officer of The Broadlane Group™ from 2008 to 2010, and is one of the company’s founders. He has more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry. Ricker previously served as senior vice president of material resource management at Tenet Healthcare Corporation and chief executive officer of BuyPower, Tenet’s previous group purchasing organization. Prior to his career at Tenet, Ricker was North American division vice president of IVAC, a manufacturer of drug delivery and vital signs technology systems. Prior to IVAC, he spent nine years as vice president of materials management services at Premier Health Alliance. Ricker earned his bachelor’s in communications from Rowan College.

Ian Sacks 
Managing Director, TowerBrook Capital Partners

Ian Sacks is a managing director of TowerBrook Capital Partners, focusing on healthcare and business services-related investments. He was previously a venture partner with Soros Private Equity. Sacks was also chairman and chief executive officer of HelpCare, a healthcare services business, which he sold in 2004. Prior to that, he was a partner at MESA Partners, an investment and advisory firm in New York. Prior to MESA, he was a consultant with APM, the largest healthcare management consulting firm in the U.S., which was sold to Computer Science Corporation. Sacks earned a bachelor’s of science in quantitative economics from Tufts University.

Barry P. Schochet
President and Chief Executive Officer of BPS Health Ventures, LLC

Barry P. Schochet is currently president and chief executive officer of BPS Health Ventures, LLC, a healthcare consulting and equity investment firm, a position he has held since 2005. From 1995 until 2005, he served in several executive capacities at Tenet Healthcare Corporation, including vice chairman. Through its subsidiaries, Tenet owns and operates acute care hospitals and related health care services. He has also served as the hospital division president for National Medical Enterprises and as chief executive officer of Cypress Community Hospital in Pompano Beach, Fla.

Schochet serves as a board member of The Broadlane Group™, Universal Hospital Services and Healthplace America. He also serves as an advisor to ARxChange and The Beryl Companies. He also served on Broadlane’s board of directors before the merger with TowerBrook.

Schochet holds a master’s degree in hospital administration from George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree in zoology from the University of Maine.

Steven Shulman 
Operating Partner at Water Street Healthcare Partners and Tower Three Partners

Steven Shulman is currently an operating partner at Water Street Healthcare Partners and Tower Three Partners. He was the chairman and chief executive officer of Magellan Health Services from 2002 thru 2008. Steve initially joined the organization as a crisis turnaround manager and managed the company through a bankruptcy process and back to the public market (MGLN: NASDAQ). He increased shareholders equity over tenfold, from $135 million to $1.6 billion. In 2007, he was voted one of the top public company managed-care chief executive officers by Institutional Investor.

From 1999 to 2002, Shulman founded and served as chairman and chief executive officer of Internet Healthcare Group (IHCG), an early-stage healthcare services and technology venture fund. IHCG created many successful early stage companies—including Lumenos, a leading consumer driven healthcare company, which was sold to Wellpoint.

Shulman served as the chairman, president and chief executive officer of Prudential Healthcare, Inc., from 1997 to 2000. During his tenure, he engineered a turnaround of the company, improving operational results by about $1 billion annually. He successfully engineered the sale of the company to Aetna. In 1987, Shulman co-founded Value Health, Inc., a leading specialty managed Care Company, where he served as president and director. Value Health went public in 1991 (VH: NYSE) and was sold to Columbia/HCA in 1997.

From 1983 to 1987, Shulman served as president of business development and as president of eastern operations for CIGNA HealthPlan. He was instrumental in leading CIGNA’s transformation from an indemnity insurance company to a national managed care organization. He began his career at Kaiser Permanente in 1974, where he served as the director of medical economics, working there until 1983.

Shulman is a member of the board of directors of Digital Insurance, CareCentrix, Access Mediquip, HealthPlan Holdings, HealthMarkets and The Broadlane Group™. He is a director of S.U.N.Y. at Stony Brook school of arts and sciences, and he a former trustee of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, the University of Hartford’s Art School and the American Association of Health Insurance Plans.

Shulman earned a bachelor’s of science in economics with honors and a master’s of science in health services administration from State University of New York at Stony Brook. Additionally, he completed the advanced management program at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Arthur H. Spiegel III
Healthcare Entrepreneur

Arthur Spiegel is an entrepreneur with more than 40 years experience in healthcare. He was the president of Computer Sciences Corporations Healthcare Group and of APM Inc. He was also previously co-chairman of Accretive Health Inc., and currently sits on the board. He also sits on the boards of Silverlink Communications, Inc.; Biostorage Technologies; Sound Inpatient Physicians and Accolade Inc. He is former chairman of the board of Amicas, Inc.; MDEverywhere and Lifemasters Supported SelfCare; and was on the boards of Lynx Medical Systems, Inc.; Eyetel Imaging, Inc.—all sold.

Spiegel founded APM Management Consultants in 1974 and grew the firm into the nation’s largest stand-alone consulting firm dedicated to healthcare. In 1996, he sold APM to CSC, where, as president reporting to the chief executive officer, he established and built the CSC Healthcare Group into one of the top four technology service companies in the industry, according to Healthcare Informatics. Serving health plans, providers and life sciences companies, the group provided leading-edge consulting and systems integration services, claims processing software, business process outsourcing for health plans, and IT outsourcing throughout the healthcare industry. Spiegel retired from CSC in 2002.

Prior to founding APM, Spiegel held top management roles in New York City’s Housing and Development and Human Resources agencies and was one of the early leaders of Accion en Venezuela (now Accion International), a corporately-funded community development organization.

Spiegel has served on not-for-profit boards, including service as president of the New York chapter of the March of Dimes and secretary of the National Center for Health Education. He has published in business journals including the Harvard Business Review and The Hospital Forum and has been named “One of the Most Influential Individuals in Health Care IT” by Advance for Health Information Executives.

Spiegel holds a master’s of business administration from the Harvard Business School and a bachelor’s of arts from Stanford University.
